Many people ask how much money they should bring for a one week vacation in Hawaii. In this video we share what we spent for two people on a one week trip to Oahu and some tips for staying on budget. Hawaii is expensive, right? Well, it can be! We are not big on organized tours, so we prefer to rent a car and do our own thing. We saved money by renting a condo at the Ilikai and cooking some of our meals at home. Join us for a week and see where we ate and played on Oahu! We stayed at the Ilikai 🤍 We did some hikes! 🤍 We went to the beach! A lot! Cost of living in Hawaii | How do people make it?

Hawaii is a trophy destination, a never-in-a-lifetime or once-in-a-lifetime experience for too many. Some calculations suggest that the average Hawaii trip cost per person is roughly $1,899 a week for fun in the sun. Idyllic white sand beaches, mountainous backdrops, and the crystal blue Pacific Ocean are things of post cards and hard for some to imagine as every day lifestyles. Trust me when I say I wouldn't trade it for the world, but that doesn't mean there aren't concessions to be made. So if you have ever wondered, "what is the cost of living in Hawaii?" and if moving to Hawaii is for your, allow me to break it down from the perspective of a Missouri-born Hawaii transplant. I've run the spectrum of being born and raised in the 3rd cheapest state in the nation to starting a life, family, career, and real estate estate investment portfolio in one of the most expensive. I'll cover the dollars and cents on the topic but to close it out, I think it's responsible to shine light on the intangibles; the true costs of living in Hawaii and how it sees some local families brought together, or pulled apart like my family. 🤍 #livinginhawaii #livinginhonolulu #hawaiicostofliving #oahu Follow the agents of DwellHawaii.com! 🤍instagram.com/dwell_hawaii 🤍instagram.com/mailagibson Moving to Oahu Lifestyle Guides: Living in Hawaii Kai: 🤍 Living in Kaimuki: 🤍 Koa Cassady RS-76047 Maila Gibson-Bandmann Coldwell Banker Realty Hawaii Real Estate Agent

I share what I spend in one month living in Hawaii and what it takes to financially get through a month in the Aloha State. Life in Hawaii and cost of living can be high, but it is possible to do it! Add me on instagram: 🤍kikoga LIMITED TIME: Get 2 FREE STOCKS ON WEBULL when you deposit $100 (Valued up to $1600): 🤍 Software Used In Construction: AutoCad 🤍 Autodesk Revit 🤍 Microsoft Office 🤍 Youtube Camera and Recording Equipment: Camera 🤍 Shotgun Mic 🤍 Clip On Mic 🤍 Ring Light 🤍 Drone 🤍 *Some of the links and other products that appear on this video are from companies which Kienen Koga will earn an affiliate commission or referral bonus. Kienen Koga is part of an affiliate network and receives compensation for sending traffic to partner sites. The content in this video is accurate as of the posting date. Some of the offers mentioned may no longer be available. Food can be expensive in Hawaii, the average plate lunch will cost you about $10-$15. Groceries can tend to be a little more expensive since a lot of the food needs to be imported. If you have family in Hawaii it helps, they can help you take home leftovers to save. I'll typically spend $400-$500 per month on food. Entertainment can be relatively cheap in Hawaii if you're doing the right things. Taking advantage of the nature around us, there are a lot of activities you can do for free in Hawaii that can cut costs down. However for me, golf is my entertainment, one of the more expensive hobbies, and I'll spend a little over $100 per month at the course. Housing is so expensive in Hawaii and is the biggest issue when it comes to cost of living. If you are expecting to live in downtown Honolulu, you will be paying over $2,000 for a decent apartment, maybe even studio. If you live in and own a condominium you will also have to pay maintenance fees. When you add in electricity, cable, etc, if you're living in a good location you'll likely be paying around $2,200 at the end of the day every month to live in Hawaii in just housing costs. Transportation in Hawaii was more of an issue prior to the pandemic as Hawaii had some of the worst traffic, just behind LA. However, due to the way the freeways and neighborhoods are zoned, it makes driving more desirable than public transportation. The cost of owning a vehicle is not only the cost of the car, but also insurance, safety checks, registration fees, etc. Gas in Hawaii is over $3 at the moment, and we have seen it go into the 4s over the past few years. Then adding in subscriptions, misc fees, etc. I'll pay a little over $100 every month. Keep in mind if you have an Amazon Prime account in Hawaii it doesn't guarantee you 2 day shipping. It'll be free, but it'll just come when it does. So in all, it costs me a little over $3,000 to live one month in Hawaii, but keep in mind a portion of my mortgage goes to equity of the home, and also, I do live in a better area. There are ways to cut costs to live in Hawaii, you just have to be creative with it if you really want to live here. Hawaii is a beautiful place to be, and it almost justifies the price tag. Hawaii Cost of Living | How Much does it Cost to Live in Hawaii

Today, I’m talking about the Hawaii cost of living, and how much does it cost to live in Hawaii. So, just how expensive is Hawaii? In this video, we will answer that question! From Rent to groceries, and everything in between, we show you! Hawaii has the highest cost of living in the nation. According to real estate company Locations Hawaii, the median price of a home in Hawaii as of December 2021 was over $1 million. But it also boasts the fourth-lowest rate of poverty. Both the median home price of over $450,000 and the typical rent of over $940 are significantly lower than the state average. Although Hawaii isn't a cheap state—actually it's the most expensive in the nation—there are a lot of cheaper cities there. In Hawaii, living expenses are indeed expensive. The high expense of living on the islands is caused by a number of factors. Space is a premium, to start. Due to the limited construction of new residences on the small islands, prices for homes and apartments are driven up by competition. Next, the price of imports raises the cost of everything, including gas, groceries, and clothing. The majority of common conveniences must be shipped from the US mainland, and brands are ready to pass on the additional cost to the customer. The average Hawaiian will need to allocate a larger monthly budget for the cost of necessities like food. If you’ve found this video, you’re probably looking for more info on: • Hawaii cost of living • how much does it cost to live in Hawaii? • cost of living in Honolulu, Maui, Oahu • Hawaii cost of living 2022 and Hawaii real estate • is Hawaii expensive? • living in Hawaii on a budget, and living in Hawaii pros and cons • surviving in Hawaii budget • thinking of moving to Hawaii Hawaii welcomes more than 10 million visitors each year. Tourists can increase prices in local markets, increasing the expense of activities like dining out or drinking cocktails in a bar. If you're thinking about moving to Hawaii, bear in mind that your current spending will differ from what it is when you reside there. More than simply housing and transportation will need to be taken into account in your cost of living adjustment. Depending on the towns and islands you are on, Hawaii's cost of living varies. Although the Big Island in Hawaii is thought to be the most affordable, the median household income there is still about $50,000. Several affordable cities can be found all around the Hawaiian islands. Try to avoid tourist hotspots and the seashore when looking for a place to live. It will be more expensive to live in these areas because these properties are frequently in high demand. Think about your preferences for a property and how close to populated areas you would like to reside when you assess the cost of living in Hawaii. This will aid in your search for the ideal residence. Don't let the expense of living stop you from moving to Hawaii if you are thinking about it. Work with seasoned Hawaiian real estate brokers that can help you locate neighborhoods that fit your budget and provide moving assistance. The correct real estate agent may also assist you with organizing your relocation arrangements, including shipping vehicles and other items to the islands. Living On $83K A Year In Hilo, Hawaii | Millennial Money

Shayla Marie Ma-e, 28, and Matthew Piianaia-Ishii, 33, live in Hilo, Hawaii, and earn a combined $83,000 a year from their jobs as a child-care worker and a concrete foreman. Together they have 3-year-old twins, Sienna and Sierra. According to Ma-e, living in Hawaii "isn't all sunsets and coconuts," as the family has dreams of moving out of state. This is an installment of CNBC Make It's Millennial Money series, which profiles people across the globe and details how they earn, spend and save their money. Read more about about their budget breakdown here: 🤍 Shayla Marie Ma-e, 28, has spent her whole life in Hilo, Hawaii. It’s where she grew up; where she began dating her fiance, Matthew Piianaia-Ishii, nine years ago; and where the two are raising their 3-year-old twin daughters, Sienna Belle and Sierra Jane. The best part of life on the Big Island, Ma-e says, is being close to family, including her mom and four cousins, who she considers as close as siblings. But she’s also quick to say that life in Hawaii isn’t “all sandy beaches and coconuts.” “I would not recommend moving to Hawaii,” Ma-e tells CNBC Make It, noting the state’s high cost of living, tourism-dependent job market and exodus of young residents who move away for college and work: “It’s really hard to live here.” Like many families, 2020 was an especially tough year. Ma-e lost her job and couldn’t find new work because of child-care needs, so the family relied solely on the $50,000 yearly income Piianaia-Ishii, 33, earns as a concrete foreman. Ma-e says the family has always lived paycheck to paycheck and gets by charging essential expenses on a credit card some months, getting help from family from time to time, and with government assistance programs. The new year is a fresh start for the young family: Ma-e started a job in February working with a child-care subsidy program, where she’ll earn roughly $33,000 a year. With the additional income stream, Ma-e and Piianaia-Ishii are hopeful they’ll have more money to pay off their debts and save for a better future for their daughters — a house, the girls’ schooling and a life with more opportunity beyond the islands. Here’s how the family of four lives on $83,000 in Hilo, Hawaii. Living paycheck to paycheck As a foreman, Piianaia-Ishii earns an average of $25 per hour and up to $80 per hour depending on the project. His earnings fluctuate week to week, which makes budgeting a challenge. Ma-e was a full-time stay-at-home mom for the past year, while Piianaia-Ishii took on as much work as possible. During months that Piianaia-Ishii’s income alone couldn’t cover everything, Ma-e charged some essential expenses to one of her three credit cards. She accrued roughly $2,300 in credit card debt as of January 2021, which they are currently paying off. Piianaia-Ishii also has two children from a previous relationship and owes roughly $29,000 in child support back payments, accrued during a three-year period he was out of work and unable to afford payments. Because of this, Ma-e keeps all financial accounts for the household under her name. It’s also why the couple are engaged but not yet married. Living paycheck to paycheck is common among friends and family nearby, Ma-e says. “We make enough to cover our bills and essentials, but we don’t make enough to move forward and [get] ahead in life,” Ma-e says. “It’s hard, the way we live, because we make too much for government assistance, and we don’t make enough to move ahead. We’re like most families here, stuck in the middle.” The couple currently don’t have retirement savings or other investments. They’re able to save every now and then if there’s money left over after bills are paid — a good month might yield $1,500 to stash away. But they’ve had to dip into savings more than usual lately, between living on one income and paying for unexpected but necessary expenses like car repairs. At the time of filming, Piianaia-Ishii had about $700 put away, while Ma-e had $20 in her savings account just to keep it open. » Subscribe to CNBC Make It.: 🤍 About CNBC Make It.: CNBC Make It. is a new section of CNBC dedicated to making you smarter about managing your business, career, and money. Aloha! This week we filmed a grocery haul in Oahu! We aren't very cheap on grocery expenses, but we aren't spending lavishly either. Hawaii can be quite expensive due to it's remote location and groceries are no exception. We try to buy groceries for the entire week and stay between $150 to $200 per week. In this grocery haul, we mainly focused on Target and Whole Foods. There are other options where you could find better deals. You can shop at Costco, Wal-Mart and Farmers Markets. Or local grocery stores, such as times, Safeway and Foodland. We shop close to home for convenience. We hope this vlog helps you gauge Oahu's grocery costs. Living In A $3,800/Month Condo In Honolulu, Hawaii | Unlocked

Jeremy Mateo, 27, owns a one-bedroom, one bathroom condo in Honolulu, HI. He pays $3,843 a month, which include his mortgage, HOA fees, the maintenance fees, taxes and insurance fees. Jeremy is a real estate broker and YouTuber. Unlocked is a home tour series focused on how much people spend on their housing, what they get for the money and what they had to sacrifice to make it happen. It’s taken over two years, but these days Jeremy Mateo is finally feeling at home. Mateo, 27, is a real estate broker in Honolulu, Hawaii, and bought his first condo on Oahu island right before the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. It all started in January 2019, when he was showing a unit in a building that overlooked Diamond Head and Waikiki. “Immediately I saw the view and thought to myself, ‘Wow, I need to live here,’” Mateo tells CNBC Make It. “So I made it my absolute goal to earn the income in order to afford to buy a unit in this building.” Over the course of a year he saved $60,000 for a down payment and worked toward his goal of buying his “dream home.” Then he spent another year renovating and furnishing his place. The last of his furniture arrived in spring 2021, finally closing the chapter on his homebuying journey. Here’s how Mateo bought his one-bedroom condo for $560,000. A year of saving When Mateo set his homebuying goal, he was still learning the ropes of real estate and earning $20,000 a year. After researching one-bedroom prices in the area, he committed to selling 10 homes in 2019 in order to earn $100,000 in commissions, the bulk of which he’d put toward his down payment. His determination paid off. After he set his goal, Mateo sold 17 homes that year, took home $120,000 and put everything into savings while giving himself $500 a month for food, gas and daily expenses. Mateo is grateful his mom let him continue to live at home rent-free during that time. “She just wanted me to sell a bunch of homes and save for my down payment so I could buy my home. And as soon as I moved out, she was extremely happy,” Mateo says, laughing. Mateo supplemented his income working as a nightclub deejay and even saved money on his social life by getting free admission and drinks to join his friends while working: “Being a deejay will help you save on cocktails,” he adds. The hunt, with an insider’s assist Though Mateo was hitting his savings goals, he recognized that one-bedroom units in his price range were scarce. He went back to his dream building and looked up the names and addresses of residents on the 25th floor and above, then sent out three rounds of handwritten letters to see if anyone was interested in selling their unit to him. When that didn’t work, he used his insider access to check the MLS, or multiple listing service database, for expired listings to see if he could reopen any offers. He found an expired listing from 2012 for a unit on the 37th floor going for $560,000. Mateo then called the real estate agent behind the listing to see if the residents were still interested in selling. As Mateo remembers it, “the next day he calls me back and he says, ‘Hey, Jeremy. Yes, my clients, they actually want to sell now.’ And right there I hung up the phone and I got up and I yelled. I was cheering. I was super excited.” Mateo used the original $560,000 listing price as a jumping off point, which the sellers accepted. Mateo considers it “a really great deal.” He was surprised by the stress he felt throughout the process: “As a real estate agent, I thought I was prepared for everything. But when it came to the emotional side, I was still stressing.” Subscribe to CNBC Make It.: 🤍 About CNBC Make It.: CNBC Make It. is a new section of CNBC dedicated to making you smarter about managing your business, career, and money.
