Magnus Carlsen was only 13 years old here. Prince of Chess directed and produced by Øyvind Von Doren Asbjørnsen. See the whole film here: 🤍. This was at the Reykjavic Rapid 2004 tournament where some of the world's best players competed. A rapid game between the past and future world champion? 2 of the worlds greatest players indeed. I wonder what would happen if they were to play now. Interesting that sometime after this, Kasparov started coaching Carlsen for a while. 🤍
Greetings, dear chess fans and experts! This is FIDE Master Max Omariev with you. Today we are gonna be looking at how Garry Kasparov, the 13th world champion, executed a brilliant attack against the U.S. champion Fabiano Caruana. This game was played in 2016 at the Ultimate Blitz Challenge tournament, where Garry Kasparov fought against the best chess players in the United States. Fabiano Caruana opens with knight F3. Knight F6 – Garry Kasparov responds. G3. This is Reti opening, and now we'll see what Garry Kasparov has in store against this boring start. We have complete symmetry. Apparently Garry wants to play this game quickly. This is, by the way, the last game in this tournament, and perhaps Garry is already tired. He's not a young man anymore. As you know, he gave up chess quite a long time ago. But let's get back to the game. So far we have an unhurried development. E5 - Garry Kasparov plays following the old Indian defense. But Fabiano Caruana decides to flank both bishops, affecting the center, but perhaps now he wants to play D4 as well to attack the center not only with pieces, but also with pawns. That's why Garry Kasparov plays C5, not allowing him to play D2-D4. But this move has a disadvantage: the square D5 is weakened, now the knight can go to C3, then the second knight will go to E1, but in general White can occupy the square D5. But no. Caruana chooses another plan, he wants to play D4 anyway, so he plays E3. Kasparov plays knight C6, adds a blow on the D4 field, but also develops a knight. The game is going on let’s see the attack from Kasparov. That was a brilliant game from the 13th world champion. He showed us the right way to attack. Friends, I hope you enjoyed this phenomenal attack from Garry Kasparov, Press the like button if you like the video. I also recommend that you subscribe to the channel and click on the bell button, not to miss the new cool chess videos that we release regularly for you. #Chess #Kasparov #Caruana

Russian corruption helps Ukraine win. Any exposure of corruption is a positive thing. Corruption is the most important tool for the functioning of non-democratic regimes. Russian corruption is in many ways the way Putin's state functions.

This is a clip from a conversation with Garry Kasparov from Oct 2019. New full episodes once or twice a week and 1-2 new clips or a new non-podcast video on all other days. You can watch the full conversation here: 🤍 (more links below) Podcast full episodes playlist: 🤍 Podcasts clips playlist: 🤍 Podcast website: 🤍 Podcast on Apple Podcasts (iTunes): 🤍 Podcast on Spotify: 🤍 Podcast RSS: 🤍 Note: I select clips with insights from these much longer conversation with the hope of helping make these ideas more accessible and discoverable. Ultimately, this podcast is a small side hobby for me with the goal of sharing and discussing ideas. For now, I post a few clips every Tue & Fri. I did a poll and 92% of people either liked or loved the posting of daily clips, 2% were indifferent, and 6% hated it, some suggesting that I post them on a separate YouTube channel. I hear the 6% and partially agree, so am torn about the whole thing. I tried creating a separate clips channel but the YouTube algorithm makes it very difficult for that channel to grow unless the main channel is already very popular. So for a little while, I'll keep posting clips on the main channel. I ask for your patience and to see these clips as supporting the dissemination of knowledge contained in nuanced discussion. If you enjoy it, consider subscribing, sharing, and commenting. Garry Kasparov is considered by many to be the greatest chess player of all time. From 1986 until his retirement in 2005, he dominated the chess world, ranking world number 1 for most of those 19 years. While he has many historic matches against human chess players, in the long arc of history he may be remembered for his match again a machine, IBM's Deep Blue. His initial victories and eventual loss to Deep Blue captivated the imagination of the world of what role Artificial Intelligence systems may play in our civilization's future. That excitement inspired an entire generation of AI researchers, including myself, to get into the field. Garry is also a pro-democracy political thinker and leader, a fearless human-rights activist, and author of several books including How Life Imitates Chess which is a book on strategy and decision-making, Winter Is Coming which is a book articulating his opposition to the Putin regime, and Deep Thinking which is a book the role of both artificial intelligence and human intelligence in defining our future. Ukraine is on the front line of a war between freedom and tyranny, says chess grandmaster and human rights advocate Garry Kasparov. In this blistering call to action, he traces Vladimir Putin's rise to power and details his own path from chess world champion to pro-democracy activist in Russia. His message is a challenge to global leaders to rise in support of Ukraine and to choose life and love over death and hatred. "The price of stopping a dictator always goes up with every delay and every hesitation," he says. "Meeting evil halfway is still a victory for evil." 30 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, its greatest—and last—chess champion reflects on the awful system that produced him. Subscribe to our YouTube channel: 🤍 Like us on Facebook: 🤍 Follow us on Twitter: 🤍 Reason is the planet's leading source of news, politics, and culture from a libertarian perspective. Go to reason.com for a point of view you won't get from legacy media and old left-right opinion magazines. The Soviet Union collapsed 30 years ago in part because its government-run economy was incapable of producing the blue jeans, cigarettes, and automobiles that its citizens wanted. What it was great at was producing champion chess players. From the end of World War II until the Evil Empire dissolved in 1991, all but one world champion—the American Bobby Fischer—represented the USSR. None was better than Garry Kasparov, who became world champion in 1985 at the record-setting age of 22. Widely considered the greatest chess player in modern history, he held that title for 15 years. As a chess prodigy, he traveled abroad for competitions and describes youthful trips to France and Germany as nothing short of revelatory. The casual "abundance" of what used to be called "the free world" "just felt different," he says. Beyond the Iron Curtain, he encountered the anti-communist works of George Orwell and was able to read exiled dissident Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's suppressed indictments of totalitarianism. As the '80s progressed, he publicly questioned the Soviet system. In 1990, he joined the Democratic Party of Russia and became increasingly outspoken in favor of human rights, representative democracy, and limited government. In post-Soviet Russia, he used his celebrity and influence to spearhead attempts to build civil society and conduct fair elections, emerging as a critic of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. By the early 2010s, he had been arrested for participating in unauthorized anti-government demonstrations and was widely believed to be the author of a popular petition demanding Putin's resignation. As chairman of the Human Rights Foundation, Kasparov continues to lobby for freedom in the former Soviet Union and beyond. In September, Reason spoke with the chess grandmaster in New York about what it was like to be the beneficiary of a catastrophically failed system and what lessons the world—especially American democratic socialists—should remember three decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union. An interview with former chess world champion Garry Kasparov made by Carl Fredrik Johansson from Uppsala Chess+ Academy on the current conflict in the chess world featuring world champion Magnus Carlsen. Kasparov is very harsh and expresses his negative opinion on Carlsen leaving the tournament in St Louis.
