A Russian military jet crashed into a residential building in the Siberian city of Irkutsk (October 23) on Sunday and the two pilots were killed, officials said, the second such fatal incident in six days involving a Sukhoi fighter plane. In a post on Telegram, Irkutsk governor Igor Kobzev said the plane crashed into a two-story house in the city. He published a video showing firefighters clambering over the wreckage and directing jets of water at the still smoldering rubble. No one on the ground was hurt, the governor said. Many different angles. Terrifying! Today, February 15, 2013 About: No deaths were reported, but about 1500 people were injured seriously enough to seek medical treatment. The Chelyabinsk meteor is the only meteor confirmed to have resulted in many injuries. 🤍 The Chelyabinsk meteor was a superbolide that entered Earth's atmosphere over Russia on 15 February 2013 at about 09:20 YEKT (03:20 UTC). It was caused by an approximately 20 m (66 ft) near-Earth asteroid with a speed of 19.16 ± 0.15 kilometres per second (60,000–69,000 km/h or 40,000–42,900 mph). It quickly became a brilliant superbolide meteor over the southern Ural region. The light from the meteor was brighter than the Sun, visible up to 100 km (62 mi) away. It was observed over a wide area of the region and in neighbouring republics. Some eyewitnesses also felt intense heat from the fireball. Due to its high velocity and shallow angle of atmospheric entry, the object exploded in an air burst over Chelyabinsk Oblast, at a height of around 29.7 km (18.5 mi; 97,000 ft). The explosion generated a bright flash, producing a hot cloud of dust and gas that penetrated to 26.2 km (16.3 mi), and many surviving small fragmentary meteorites, as well as a large shock wave. The bulk of the object's energy was absorbed by the atmosphere, with a total kinetic energy before atmospheric impact estimated from infrasound and seismic measurements to be equivalent to the blast yield of 400–500 kilotons of TNT (about 1.4–1.8 PJ) range – 26 to 33 times as much energy as that released from the atomic bomb detonated at Hiroshima. The object was undetected before its atmospheric entry, in part because its radiant (source direction) was close to the Sun. Its explosion created panic among local residents. All of the injuries were due to indirect effects rather than the meteor itself, mainly from broken glass from windows that were blown in when the shock wave arrived, minutes after the superbolide's flash. Some 7,200 buildings in six cities across the region were damaged by the explosion's shock wave, and authorities scrambled to help repair the structures in sub-freezing temperatures. With an estimated initial mass of about 12,000–13,000 tonnes (13,000–14,000 short tons, heavier than the Eiffel Tower), and measuring about 20 m (66 ft) in diameter, it is the largest known natural object to have entered Earth's atmosphere since the 1908 Tunguska event, which destroyed a wide, remote, forested, and very sparsely populated area of Siberia.

Dramatic footage captures the moment a Russian fighter jet crashes to earth in a huge fireball moments after takeoff, amid Putin's army's military collapse in Ukraine. The Su-25 aircraft was reportedly taking off from the annexed Ukrainian territory of Crimea. The short clip - believed to have been filmed on Sunday - shows two Sukhoi Su-25s, worth an estimated £9.4m each, take off from an unknown airfield reported to be in Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014. As the Russian jets take off, they both arc to the left. Suddenly, one of the jets drops out of the sky, slamming into the ground in an enormous explosion. As one of the watching men shouts out, a huge fireball erupts from the earth, sending plumes of black smoke pouring into the sky. A dazzling fireball has streaked over several towns in Western Siberia. Stunned locals managed to film the object as it sped by glowing yellow and green. The even was recorded in the towns of Yugansk and Surgut on Saturday night. People gazing at the fireball and watching the videos have been guessing if that was a meteor or maybe a UFO. Since the fireball appeared to be gliding steadily across the night skies rather than crashing into the earth, some suggested the stunned locals may have witnessed a spacecraft’s stages burning up in the atmosphere. It has been reported that the object landed in a remote area and no one has been injured. There has not been any official explanation of the mysterious flyby so far, with the emergencies ministry saying it is unaware of whatever dazzled the locals. 🤍 ✝Donations are welcome & definitely appreciated! Kherson Regional State Administration released a video on Thursday (November 24) showing aftermath of a missile strike on what was said to be a residential building in Kherson. The video showed Kherson region governor, Yaroslav Yanushevych, walking at the scene, and talking to residents. Reuters was not able to verify the location of the footage or the date it was filmed. “Russian occupiers shelled a residential area of the city using artillery and multiple rocket launchers. Due to the shelling, a multi-storey residential building caught fire”, Yanushevych said in a post on social media. He added that missiles also got at a children's playground. Earth Has Been Getting Warmer Way Faster Than We Thought We know that the planet is getting warmer—but it turns out that it's happening faster than we thought. Turns out scientists have been underestimating warming increases because of inaccurate temperature recordings taken in the southern oceans. New Scientist reports that a team from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California has compared direct measurements from the seas with satellite data and climate models. Their findings suggest that the oceans of the southern hemisphere have absorbed more than twice as much heat trapped in our atmosphere than previously calculated. Indeed, the results suggest that the world's oceans are currently absorbing somewhere between 24 and 58 per cent more energy than we thought. In turn, that means that we have likely underestimated how much our world has been warming—because the southern seas have been working harder to take up the slack. The findings are published in Nature Climate Change. The study actually considers the period between 1970 and 2003. The reason for the discrepancy? During that period, northern oceans were well frequented by cargo ships while the southern seas weren't—and its those ships that record and log temperature data. So scientists were working with a limited data set—one that was inaccurate. In recent years, a network of buoys called the Argo floats have rolling out—so we shouldn't experience the same kind of errors again. It fragmented some 18 miles above the small town of Grove Oak. Early results indicate the fireball, which was at least 40 times as bright as the Full Moon, was caused by a small asteroid 6 feet (2 meters) in diameter.

In 1908, something bizarre happened in Siberia. On June the thirtieth, at seven AM villagers in Eastern Siberia saw a giant luminous sphere flying through the sky. It was approaching with a deafening roar that sounded like thunder. A couple of seconds later, an around forty-megaton explosion occurred. Such impact can be compared to the detonation of two thousand nuclear bombs. The blast wave was picked up in various locations all over the world. The forest at the explosion epicenter was immediately set on fire. Most trees within two thousand square kilometers were fallen. However, some of them remained upright for some reason. At the site where the alleged meteorite fell, there was neither a crater nor fragments. How could such a powerful explosion leave no trace? In this video, you’ll find out: What will happen if the Earth collides with a black hole? How many mosquitoes does it take to set fire to a forest? And what is the Tunguska event really about?
