More information is revealed about the rumored PS5 with a detachable disc drive. #GamingNews #PS5 #PlayStation5 According to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, the possible PS5 Slim "Doesn't seem like there are any major hardware changes from the original console." Tom went on to add that the disc drive might not work with current Digital Editions. If this is true, that is a very odd decision for Sony to make. The internals are identical, so someone correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn't the current digital console just need a firmware update? I’m not interested in buying one, I love the digital life despite its shortcomings, but for those of you that are, maybe a third party will make them as well. Then current digital owners can be the proud owners of a Mad Catz PS5 disc drive. This new PS5 with a detachable disc drive was first reported in September. The system will supposedly arrive in September 2023 and has been in production since November 2020. The disc drive will connect to the console through a USB-C port on the back of the system. Sony will reportedly sell the slim system on its own or bundled with the detachable drive (which itself will be offered separately too). But no matter which version of the PS5 you own, your priority is most likely games… followed by your dwindling storage space. One game loads of you will be making room for later this year is Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This week a leaked image for the game has confirmed that the game will have several live service elements. Verified by VGC, the image first appeared on 4Chan and is said to be from a recent test build.

When I compared the motherboards of the PS5 disc version and the PS5 disc-less version the only differences I found were missing connectors for where the disc drive would connect. So in this video I'm taking those connectors off a donor PS5 motherboard and installing them on the motherboard of the PS5 all digital. Will it work or do I need to make more modifications? The vulnerability comes by way of noted console hacker CTurt, and if he’s to be believed, there’s effectively no way for Sony to patch this one. That might not be good news for Sony’s security team, but gamers who want to run homebrew software on Sony’s consoles could get their wish. According to CTurt, he revealed the Mast1c0re exploit to Sony a year ago via the company’s bug bounty program. However, there has been no sign of a patch. So, he’s releasing the proof-of-concept publicly. You can peruse all the relevant information on GitHub, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Given time, the community could craft this software flaw into a system for running arbitrary code, thus, unlocking the power of homebrew (and piracy) on Sony’s latest hardware. The issue lies with Sony’s PS2 on PS4 emulator — specifically, the just-in-time (JIT) compiler that turns the PS2 code into PS4-ready code on-the-fly while a game is running. Sony gave the compiler privileged access to the system, so the machine treats every bit that comes out of it as legitimate. CTurt managed to hijack the compiler to run games that Sony has not authorized. CTurt says that the exploit is going to be very difficult for Sony to patch because of how the company opted to distribute the code. Rather than building the PS2-on-PS4 code into the OS, the emulator is bundled with every downloadable and disc-based PS2 game released for the PS4 (yes, there are a few). That means if you’ve got a copy of the emulator, a known exploit in a game from 20 years ago can be used to take control of the JIT compiler on a brand new PS5. Some of these are annoying to trigger on newer consoles, but they work. In the video above, you can see CTurt loading a custom PS2 ISO using the Mast1c0re exploit. It takes a while to load the game, so the middle of the video has been trimmed. However, CTurt notes that compression support could vastly speed up load times. If you’re not a developer, it’s the future of Mast1c0re that should interest you. Currently, it’s a complex, multistep process to load custom software on the PS4 and PS5, but others could take Mast1c0re and use it as the base for a new homebrew explosion. Sony will undoubtedly try to stop it, but the cat may be out of the bag. New PS5: The PlayStation 5 is set to get a unique overhaul in the middle of FY 2023, with the new console launching around September 2023, say sources. Sources familiar with Sony’s plans have shared details under the condition of anonymity outlining the next iteration of the PlayStation 5. It’s been suggested that this new console will completely replace the A, B, and C chassis that have been in production since the console’s launch. The console, currently named the D chassis PlayStation 5, will have almost identical hardware to the existing consoles already on the market. The most surprising new feature of the new this new PS5 though, is that the console will have a detachable disc drive. The detachable disc drive will be connected to the PlayStation 5 using an extra USB-C port on the back of the console. On the subject of the detachable hard drive, though, some users in the thread wonder what the point is if it’s not compatible with the current Digital Version of the console or that it would severely limit the sales of the device. Another believes that a move like this would actually be “anti-consumer” on Sony’s part.

Not implying anything is wrong. Merely a video to demonstrate the sound of the PS5 disc drive. Loud, but not consistent. Loudest on initial launch of game (sometimes even louder than what’s shown here) lasting about 30 seconds. Will spin back up occasionally. I’ve also noticed a slight rattle when the drive really gets going. It could be the stand though. Bonus: Kitty

One of the most common problems with the PS5 disc version is that many consoles won't read discs at all. There are many reasons why your PS4 might not be able to read a disc. Some people have this problem because of a problem with their hardware, while others have it because of a problem with their game disc or a software glitch. You'll need to try a number of troubleshooting steps to figure out which one may be the cause of your problem. Here are the fixes that you can do:
What to do when a disc gets stuck in your PS5! If your Playstation 5 keeps doing this - you should return it, exchange it, or get it fixed. Before you do, here's step-by-step how to get your disc unstuck from Playstation 5! First thing you should do is disconnect the stand & all cables from your PS5. After you remove the cover, you can use a screwdriver to access the manual eject screw. Turn the screwdriver clockwise to remove the disc from the system. This will remove the disc from your PS5. If it's the first time this happens, don't worry. However, if this keeps happening to your Playstation 5 - you should return it, exchange it, or send it in for repair. Hopefully this helps!

From: 🤍 What you will need before you begin: A well-lit room with a table to work on. A #1 Phillips or Cross Hatch screwdriver works best. A small flashlight (optional). Turn off the PS5™ system and disconnect the AC cord. Disconnect all cables from the system. Remove the stand from the PS5 system. Place your palms on the system’s glossy panel and let your fingers rest on the far side of the system. Place the system sideways on a clean, flat surface in front of you, so that the front of the system is facing you. You're going to remove the bottom panel that has the disc slot from the PS5. The top panel that has a PS logo on it should be facing the table. Place your palms on the top of the panel, near the back corner of the system, and grip the edge of the panel with your fingers. Lift the corner of the panel up, away from the system until the panel shifts a couple of centimetres. You will hear a click and the panel will move a couple of centimetres. Lift the panel off, starting from the right side. Once the panel has been removed, look for four circular pieces on the bottom of the optical drive. Beside these is a circular dust cover of black plastic. Carefully peel this dust cover away to reveal the screw beneath. Set the dust cover to one side for now. Turn the screw clockwise until the disc can be seen peeking out of the disc slot. This may require several turns of the screw. Very little effort is required to turn the screw. Grab the disc by hand and pull it out of the disc slot. Use the black, circular dust cover to cover the screw. Replace the bottom panel by positioning it over the exposed section of the system, a couple of centimetres away from the edge. Slide the panel back into place until it clicks into position. Reconnect all cables and the AC cord. Turn on the system to check that everything is working properly. This is normal, and simply means that it is reading the disk information at a faster rate to load all the data more effectively. #SHORTS

I spoke to Argos to replace the unit ... they told me they cannot replace it as they simply have none left and could only offer a refund... oh no .. 🙁 ... so I suggested to them that instead I keep the console and use it as a digital console only, until they have restocks available ... (I was worried that this would void my warranty and thought it a long shot)..... to my amazement Argos agreed ... so I get to use the unit up until I can replace it... so won’t have to go a day without one .... 10/10 for Argos fair play ...
Do you want to know how to fix the loud disc drive on the PS5! To do this turn off your PS5 and then manually eject a disc using a screw driver. Remove the cover over the disc drive! Then there will be a small black circle than you can puncture or remove and then turn the screw driver to the right and it will pop out any disc that is stuck!
