Have you ever wondered how guided missiles operate with such deadly and precise accuracy? If you have ever heard of the Iron Dome, then you are familiar with different types of missile guidance. These types of military weapons include fox one, fox two, fox three, supersonic cruise missiles, and intercontinental ballistic missiles. The question now is what is this advanced and futuristic technology that dates back to World War II? One of the most important parts of a guided missile is its guidance system. This system enables the vehicle to reach its destination by combining target location information with navigation information. When it comes to missile guidance, there are five basic methods that come into use: command, inertial, active, semi-active, and passive. The next step after honing in on its target is target destruction. There are several methods that can be used to determine when a missile should explode eviscerating its target. The first is on impact and the second uses radar, sound waves, a magnetic sensor, or a laser to detonate the warhead when the target is within a specified distance. Have these facts piqued your curiosity yet? Do you want to know more about missile guidance and target destruction? Are you curious to find out about every part of a guided missile and what role it plays in its execution? Then watch our video to find out all these details and more. The 9M133 Kornet, NATO reporting name AT-14 Spriggan, export designation Kornet-E, is a modern Russian man-portable anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) intended for use against main battle tanks. It was first introduced into service by the Russian army in 1998. The Kornet is among the most capable Russian ATGMs. It is not intended to fully replace previous systems, due to its high cost. The Kornet comes in variants with thermobaric warheads for use against soft targets. It was further developed into the 9M133 Kornet-EM, which has increased range, and an improved warhead. The Kornet has been widely exported and is produced under license in several countries. It was first used in combat in 2003 and has since been used in many conflicts. What makes Kornet lethal is it's long range In contrast with Western armies where the primary infantry ATGM has a relatively short range of about 2.5 kilometers, the Kornet is a long-range ATGM with a range of eight kilometers. Javelin has its own advantage where the operator is simply required to lock on, then launch the missile. In short, javelin has fire and forget capability while in the case of Kornet the operator continues guiding the missile after launch by keeping the reticle on the target by SACLOS guidance. Another plus point of Kornet is that it's high kill probability at long range. The retention of the SACLOS mode of guidance is more of a result of the preferences and doctrine of the Russian military, rather than the lack of technology on the Russian arms complex. Russia can also go for fire and forget capability but SACLOS guidance has proven to give the operators more confidence in their weapon in certain situations due to their ability to continue guiding the missile after firing. In contrast fire and forget missile, being out of the loop after launch led to a decrease in confidence. . ... ... ................I hope you enjoyed the video.................. A cruise missile is an unmanned self-propelled guided vehicle that maintains flight through aerodynamic lift throughout its journey. Its primary mission is to deliver a payload, such as a high-explosive warhead, to a specific target with pinpoint accuracy. Cruise missiles can be launched from various platforms, including ground vehicles, aircraft, surface ships, and submarines, providing military forces with extensive deployment options. Cruise missiles can be broadly classified into two categories: subsonic and supersonic cruise missiles. Subsonic cruise missiles, like the U.S. Tomahawk or the Russian Kalibr, travel at speeds below the speed of sound (Mach 1), while supersonic cruise missiles, such as the Russian P-800 Oniks or the Indian BrahMos, travel at speeds exceeding the speed of sound (Mach 1 and above). Examples of modern cruise missiles include the U.S. Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM), which has been widely used in conflicts such as the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the intervention in Libya. The Russian Kh-101 and Kh-102 cruise missiles are also noteworthy, offering long-range standoff capabilities for their strategic bomber fleet. The BrahMos, a joint venture between India and Russia, is a supersonic cruise missile capable of being launched from land, sea, and air platforms, making it a versatile weapon system. The Rurhstahl X-4 was a liquid fueled, wire guided, air-to-air missile in development by Germany in WWII. While too late to have any impact, it did provide research into the future development of wire guided missile technology. By late 1944 about 1,300 missile assemblies had been built, but the factory making the motors had been heavily bombed leaving few motors to be used. Ironically, the Allied bomber formations that these missiles were intended for destroyed the capability of these missiles from reaching Luftwaffe units.

The BGM-71 TOW (Tube-launched, Optically-tracked, Wire-guided) is a heavy anti-tank missile. It was developed by Hughes Aircraft Company during the mid and late 1960s. It was designed both for ground and heliborne applications. Production contract was awarded in 1968. First fielded in the 1970, the TOW is one of the most widely used anti-tank guided missiles in the world. Over 650 000 of these missiles have been made. It is still going strong after nearly forty-five years of service. Currently the TOW anti-tank missile and its variants are used by more than 45 countries around the world. In 1997 the Hughes Aircraft Company was taken over by Raytheon. So development and production of this anti-tank missile now comes under Raytheon brand. The TOW has destroyed tanks, mostly Russian, during the war in Vietnam, the Arab-Israeli Wars, the Iran-Iraq War, Gulf War, and now Syria. It proved itself as a very effective weapon. In the basic infantry form the TOW launcher is mounted on a portable tripod. The missile is carried in a sealed container. It is clipped to the launcher before the launch. This weapon is serviced by a crew of three soldiers, including commander, gunner and assistance gunner. The launcher can be disassembled and transported by the crew. The TOW launchers are typically used by separate anti-tank companies for heavy anti-armor work. The original missiles are wire-guided. First production missiles had a maximum range of 3 000 m. Although it was estimated, that the basic TOW missile could penetrate 500-600 mm or Rolled Homogeneous Armor (RHA), according to now unclassified study it penetrates only 430 mm. The TOW missile has semi-automatic guidance. It is not a fire-and-forget type weapon. It requires the shooter to keep the target in the line of sight until the missile impacts. Once the missile is launched the optical sensor on the sight continuously monitors the position of missile in relation to the target. The sensor corrects the trajectory of the missile by sending electrical signals that are passed on by two wires. The communication by wires with the missile can not be jammed by the enemy. The latest missiles of the TOW are produced both with wire- and wireless guidance. These newer wireless missiles require no special alterations to the launcher. The TOW launcher is widely carried on various vehicles, and even helicopters. The launcher can be mounted on HMMWVs. It is employed as the main anti-tank weapon by M2 infantry fighting vehicle and M3 Bradley cavalry fighting vehicle. Also there are dedicated anti-tank missile carriers, based on the Stryker (M1134) and LAV-25 (LAV-AT). The M1134 is used by the US Army, while the LAV-AT is used by the US Marine Corps. Also there is an obsolete M901 anti-tank missile carrier, based on the M113 armored personnel carrier chassis, that is still in used by some countries. Hope you enjoy!! 💰 Want to support my channel? How tow anti-tank missiles work | how anti-armor missile work | wire guided missile how it works | First produced in 1970, TOW is one of the most widely used anti-tank guided missiles. The TOW anti-tank guided missile is still deadly after nearly 50 years of service where it proved itself as a very effective weapon. The TOW anti-tank missiles were responsible for many destroyed tanks, mostly Russian-made. The TOW missiles are typically used by various companies for heavy anti-armor work but still the TOW is able to knock-out even the most protected tanks. The weapon is used in anti-armor, anti-bunker, anti-fortification and anti-amphibious landing roles. How TOW anti-tank missiles - Anti-Armor Missile Work In its basic infantry form, the system breaks down into a number of modules: a folding tripod mount, a launch tube (into the rear of which encased missiles are inserted), a mandatory daysight tracker unit, which can be augmented with an optional AN/TAS-4 or AN/TAS-4/A gas-cooled night sight (or an all-in-one tracker unit on the M41 ITAS version), and a traversing unit, which mounts onto the tripod and carries the launch tube and sight, that also includes the weapon's trigger and the bridging clamp, which mates with the missile's umbilical data connector. In addition to this main assembly, there is a separate FIRE CONTROL SYSTEM (FCS) module, which performs all guidance calculations, and a battery pack to power the system. These two modules link to each other, with the FCS then linked to the daysight with a cable. The soldier picks several targets and attack kinds by peering through a command launch unit. Javelin is a fire-and-forget missile with autonomous self-guidance and lock-on before launch. When assaulting armoured vehicles, the system uses a top-attack flight profile, striking the normally thinner top armour, although it may also launch a direct attack on structures, targets too near for top attack, targets under obstructions, and helicopters. Recently it has been used in Ukraine against the Russian invasion where it has been proved as a lethal weapon. Enough said let go to the detail of its operation and how it works. Breaking it down the Javelin Missile is divided into 7 parts, 1)The sensors which guides the missile to its Target. 2)A small "precursor charge" that can be used to overcome reactive armour or other impediments. 3)The Guidance System which is the brain of the Missile along with the Sensor. 4)The Main Charge which is detonated after the Precursor. 5)The Main Flight Motor using conventional rocket propellant. 6)The v Stabilizing the Missile. 7)And last part of the missile is the Launch Motor, engaged just to clear some space for the soldier.... The gunner carries a reusable Command Launch Unit (in addition to the Launch Tube Assembly), often known as a C L U also pronounced "clue", which is the two-part system's aiming component. The CLU includes three views that may be used to detect, target, and fire the missile. It can also be used as a portable thermal sight when not attached to the missile. The Launch Tube Assembly, which houses the missile and protects it from severe circumstances, is carried by both the gunner and the ammo bearer. The tube also features built-in electronics and a locking hinge system, allowing for quick and easy attachment and removal of the missile from the Command Launch Unit. It has a length of 1.1 metre or 43 inches with a barrel of 1.2 metre or 47 inches with a diametre of 142 mm or 5.6 inches. The Warhead weigh around 19 pound or 8.4 KG This can pierce armour with a thickness of 600 to 800 mm Rolled homogeneous armour. It has a maximum firing range is 2500 metres. A variant of the Javelin with a range of 4750 metres was recently created by the company. The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is - whichever is greater - it obtains a difference or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position that it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is is now the position that it wasn't, and if follows that the position that it was is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation. The variation being the difference between where the missile is and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows: Because a variation has modified some of the information that the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it know where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice versa. And by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.
