I believe Mercedes are driving Red Bull’s strategy. With the cost cap teams have simple decisions to make. Put limited resources into the 2021 car, or into the 2022 car. Red Bull see the possibility of winning this year’s championship. Unfortunately, doing so is a one-time achievement. They’re continuing to upgrade the 2021 car, at the expense of their 2022 car, and well beyond. Wolff is being incredibly clever. If Mercedes finish 2021 in second place, they’ll have a much better car, in 2022, and for years ahead! A painful year, for Mercedes, followed by a better car, for years to come!
